A 12-year-old from California sent her Hello Kitty doll 17 miles above the Earth's surface using a weather balloon. Lauren Rojas documented the flight with cameras, along with sensors to measure temperature, elevation and pressure. The balloon popped at 93,625 feet, but the doll was unharmed, landing in a tree about 48 miles away from the launch point.
