These odd-looking robots are pack mules that can be used to carry gear. DARPA and Boston Dynamics developed the Legged Squad Support System (LS3) to help soldiers by carrying their gear and follow them through rugged terrain. The robots can reach speeds of 5 mph over rough terrain. DARPA says the robots can right themselves if they tip over. They can also follow soldiers and track squad members even in a forested terrain or high brush.
