Astonishing Video: Super Bullet Flies Through Air Like Dart
A new "super-bullet" can accurately fire at targets more than a mile away.
The self-guided bullet flies like a dart and adjust itself mid-air through built-in actuators with tiny fins that steer it to its target. A typical bullet has to spin through the air in order to fly in a straight line. However, this bullet flies straight because the center of gravity is in the front and the tiny fins enable it to fly without a spin just like a dart in the air. The company behind the projectile, Sandia National Laboratories, say it also has an optical sensor that sends data to a guidance system that steers the bullet. The designers say the guided bullet could come within 8 inches of a target over a half mile away.
