This odd-looking frog was one of about 1,300 species recently documented in a Conservation International survey in southwest Suriname. The large frog, said to look like the character "Pac-Man", has a wide mouth which it uses to swallow prey like mice and even other frogs. Newly hatched tadpoles have been known to attack other tadpoles too. The Conservation International's Rapid Assessment Program observed this and several other species in the tropical country. About 46 of the species the scientists observed could be new to science including a "cowboy" frog, a spiny catfish and a colorful katydid. Suriname holds one of last untouched forests in the world.
