Astonishing Video: Dung Beetle Dance

This dung beetle in the video is dancing on a dung ball before it rolls it away.

Scientists say the dancing has to do with how the beetles orient themselves and determine which direction they need to go. In an experiment, scientists used mirrors to change the light above the beetles with dung balls. The beetles changed course as the light changed and most of the beetles who dance atop the mounds appeared to be ones that fell off their balls or encountered an obstacle in their path. The beetles gather the dung to lay eggs and feed their young.
