Thousands of people gathered on the shores of Weifang City in China to fly more than 10,000 kites, setting a new Guinness World Record for the most kites flown simultaneously.
According to Guinness World Record guidelines, participants had to fly their kites for at least 30 seconds. Of the total number of kites flown, 336 weren't counted because they were not successfully flown. The final count of kites flown was 10,465, smashing the previous record of 6,198.
Weifang City is famous for its kite making and flying. The record attempt was sponsored by the Kite Association of Weifang Binhai Economic-Technological Development Area and took place on April 16 at a beach in Weifang City in China's Shandong Province.
Guinness World Records officially announced the new record on June 31.
