'G' On Packers' Helmet Doesn't Stand for 'Green Bay' ... What?
Ask any football fan what the famous white and green 'G' logo emblazoned on the Green Bay Packers' helmets stands for and they'll probably answer "Green Bay." And they'd be wrong.
Former NFL running back Tiki Barber, of all people, shed some light on the logo's true origins during media week leading up to Super Bowl XLV. The 'G', Barber illuminated, stands for "greatness." The logo was designed in 1961 by team equipment manager George Brashier, and has proven to be incredibly appropriate given the Packers' record 12 NFL championships .
Here's a great video of Barber grilling Packers players on the logo's origin. They don't fare very well.
